The Progress Progress chassis went through several stages of evolution over many years. Originally it served as an option under the excellent Wessex bodies. With the addition of various deck fittings it carriies containers, road vehicles or cable drums.
Chassis were produced by having sheets of brass etched in the earliest days, but this was soon discontinued in favour of nickel-silver. The etched chassis design culminated in the ‘versatile’ chassis with its deck completely free of obstruction such as tabs. This was ideal for adding fittings as described above.
More recently we have moved to a combination of a laser-cut steel deck with the springs and axle boxes added in etched nickel-silver. This made design changes and even ‘specials’ more affordable without compromising quality. For the meantime the all-etched chassis serves under the various ‘loads’ but will be superseded as stocks run down.
With the passing of Les Horton and then his son Rob there was no more Wessex. We have the last of the splendid ‘England’s Glory’ wagons. An alternative was found in the EGA wagon bodies, made in novel fashion of fibreboard with a printed vinyl wrap. we commissioned a batch with a brewery theme which are offered here. Sadly, because of equipment failure that business also closed so these are the last opportunity.
Please be aware of options on wheels and couplings. These default to replica Hornby plastic wheels and our own drop-link coupling unless you specify otherwise.
